Dreamy Vintage-Inspired Maine Wedding
When Ella and Griffin asked me to photograph their wedding, I knew their love of film photography, D&D, thrifting, and all things vintage would create a magical dreamy day for their celebration. Surrounded by close friends and family, they celebrated their marriage at Sweet Pea’s Cafe in Bar Harbor after eloping this past winter. The evening was infused with their love of each other, friendships, style, and lots and lots of dancing.
The vintage theme
Ella was wearing a Gunne Sax dress, while Griffin had on a thrifted 1970s suit. As an environmental scientist and thrifter extroadinaire, Ella took extra care to make their wedding sustainable! They used recycled jars for the flowers and all thrifted clothing (including her incredible 70s reception outfit). They also sourced their all vegan dinner from local farms.
The average American wedding emits 57,152 kilograms of CO2, the equivalent of nearly 14 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven for one year! Mindful consumption when wedding planning can make a massive impact in reducing your carbon footprint. Small changes - like having vegan options, using thrifted decor and wardrobe, incorporating local seasonal florals, and minimizing food waste - add up to big impacts, while also creating a wedding celebration that is unique, special, and upholds the couples values.
Small farm wedding at Sweet Peas in Bar Harbor, Maine
When I first entered the venue I was blown away by the intimate setting - intricately designed flower bouquets, fairy lights over a long table, a small dance floor, and views of flowers and fields. Ella’s mom thoughtfully arranged the flowers, adding some of her own homegrown plants to florals from Hidden in Thyme. Together, these bouquets encapsulated mid-summer in Maine!
Ella and Griffin choose to have their celebration at Sweet Pea’s Farm in Bar Harbor, Maine. Cafe by day, venue by night - the farm features farm to table meals, gorgeous flower beds, and an elegant outdoor dining and party space. They gathered their friends and family on the grass overlooking a small pond for the vow exchange. There was plenty of room for a live band and dancing under the stars.
Outdoor dance party
The evening ended with a long dance party to a mix of old and new songs performed by a live band. From Fall Out Boy to Stevie Wonder, and even Darius Rucker, the guests danced under the stars and twinkle lights. Ella and Griffin wanted their day to feel like summer camp, culminating in an epic dance party - and as they celebrated with friends and family I felt that!
