Family Photographs During a Summer Vacation in Maine

Vacation family photography

Every summer my family and I would pack up the car and spend two weeks at a little cottage in Ocean Park Maine - a small community near Old Orchard. It was my favorite time of the year, and I always experienced a small bout of little kid sadness when we had to return home. I’d come home with a bucket of seashells that I would spread out on the floor and sort. They would find their way onto the bookshelves of my bedroom, or I used them for crafting projects during the summer. We kept up that tradition every year until college, and I still look back at those memories and recognize how special that time was. Moments from those vacations still come up in family conversations, and whenever I can, I drive down to the street we used to vacation on. Several years ago our charming cottage rental was torn down, and a three story modern house was built in it’s place.

Family vacations are more than just a break from the routine—they are opportunities to create lasting memories with loved ones. While the experiences you share are unforgettable, capturing these moments with a photographer can provide a family heirloom that can be revisited years after those vacations end. I still have the snapshots from my family vacation in a scrapbook. However, those snapshots rarely have my whole family pictured, and so many moments - long walks to the pier, cooking on the charcoal grill, playing cards on the porch - live only in my memory.

Unique adventure family photography

As a documentary photographer, I focus on taking real pictures - photographs that show true, intimate moments. I can imagine photographing a family while they spend a weekend up at their camp near Moosehead Lake, or while they spend a week in Saco on the beach. Moments: swimming, cooking, having a campfire, or playing games.

My family photography sessions are designed around activities that you all enjoy. For me it’s not just about the end photographs, but about creating memories during the process. A vacation is a time when everyone is relaxed and happy, providing the perfect opportunity to capture candid moments and interactions. These photos reflect the true essence of your family and the joy of being together, in a location that is special for you!
